Plus support from Deviant UK + Flesh Eating Foundation
Tin Omen describe themselves as industrial electro rock but with their influences ranging from NIN to Kylie Minogue and their fan base being mainly in the industrial goth arena, their music can be appreciated by music fans in any sphere.
Tin Omen describe themselves as industrial 'electro rock' but pigeonholing them merely does them a dis-service. With influences ranging from NIN to Kylie Minogue their fan base, which began mainly in the industrial & goth genre's, is rapidly expanding to include music fans from all spheres. Originally formed in 1998 by Bryan Sutton, Bryan's almost dance style tracks, blended with his heavy guitar riffs, saw the band through several line-up changes until they came across Kelly Newton who supplied them with not only the unique and powerful vocal style they needed but also a very emotive lyricist. The band then wrote and gigged around the UK as a duo until long time friend John Baker, bringing a fresh angle on programming as well as being a talented keyboard and guitar player, joined early in 2003 and the band now felt complete.
In April 2004 the band gained the expertise of Stan Saunders. who to this day has become an integral part of the live sound, providing them with a consistently excellent level of live production, typically only enjoyed by major label artists, whilst for the release on the bands third Ep, Without System Control, Tin Omen gained yet another expert in his field, Gordon Young, who provided not only a stunning studio mix for the Ep but went on to engineer the bands first full album, Define My Existence, and is currently working with them on the follow up due later this year...watch this space as snippets of new material have already started appearing, in both video and audio form, on this site and the band's much visited Myspace portal...
The band's discography includes 3 self-produced Ep's & 1 album, as well as a stream of remixes for other artists such as Celldweller, Palomine and Flesh Eating Foundation, with a string of gig's including two of the UK's premier industrial/electronic festivals, Infest in Bradford and Dark City in Edinburgh, plus supports with Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Rico, Spear of Destiny, Ministry, Covenant, Decoded Feedback, and most recently Gary Numan. All of which has gained the band numerous new fans including the likes of Al Jourgensen (Ministry) & Jean-Luc De Meyer (Front 242) and, coupled with the increasingly rave reviews of both live and recorded material, things are most definitely looking up...
SINCE MATERIALISING IN 2004, Deviant UK has established itself as a star of the European Dark Alternative scene - proudly waving the flag for Britain. The band unleashed the long-awaited debut album 'Barbed Wire Star' in September 2006, spawning the anthemic club hits 'Raptured Saints' and 'Access Denied!'. Their unique sound is powerful, distinctive and instantly accessible.
This band is defined onstage, consolidating an ever-growing fanbase with intensive live dates including the renowned Infest, Nocturnal Culture Night, Whitby and Dark City festivals among others. Their scene credentials received the royal seal of approval in October 2006 when Deviant UK were handpicked to be guests of the mighty VNV Nation at their unforgettable Homecoming show in Dublin. Since then, the band have enjoyed memorable shows with The Cruxshadows, Diary of Dreams, Absurd Minds and Seabound among many others. And this is just the beginning...
Deviant UK is masterminded by singer, songwriter and frontman Jay Smith ("a true showman with an ego the size of a planet" - Rocksound Magazine). This is devilishly dark synthetic pop with a black heart, fusing glacial electronics to industrial beats while Smith's frozen, angst-ridden vocals coat every song in ice. Memorable hooks and fist-in-the-air choruses demonstrate an effortless understanding of pop science that makes Deviant UK stand head and shoulders above their peers.
This is a band that believes in the true value of the 'rock star', driven by a distinctive image and stage presentation that works hand-in-hand with the music. The live performances are defined by Smith - engaging audiences with a confidence that is equal parts arrogance, charisma and control freak...and the eyes suggest more than a passing acquaintance with the deranged.
In a climate where manufactured pop is king, Deviant UK is a dark alternative that delivers. Obsessed with the darker side of life, Jay Smith's first-person view is suitably stark; everyone has a secret to hide, friends will always let you down and love inevitably ends badly. This is your guided tour to a world of sin, betrayal and paranoia, framed by a humour so black that it can only have come from having been there, seen it and done it.
You have either got it or you haven't. Deviant UK tick the 'rock star' box with style, embracing every excess in the manual . With the 'Barbed Wire Star' album already hailed as a classic debut, extensive European and US tour dates lie ahead to follow the recent triumphant performance at the legendary Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig. Collaborations with Peter Spilles [Project Pitchfork] and the mighty Rotersand will be released this Summer and the aptly titled second album 'Very Bad Things' is scheduled for release later this year: bigger, darker and better. Who would bet against them now?
